stretching chain

I adjusted my chain about 4 weeks ago as it was getting a bit slack and then when I inspected it this weekend, it was slack again. Whats going on here, is there something wrong or am I being too hard on the chain??

Also, I was told that if the  sprockets were not "perfectly" aligned when I readjusted the chain, even by a millimeter or two, that this was BAD. Is ther truth in this?? as my all be it untrained eye cant see much wrong with the way the sprockets and chain are turning.

How olds the chain? They can get a bit stretchy at the end of their life. Also make sure you tighten it at the tightest point to what the manual recommends.

Mine was slacking off a bit much a few months back and i found my wheels werent aligned. Once i aligned the wheels it hasnt slackened off yet. Mind you i havent been riding it as much.

the wheels don't look out of alignment, well to the naked eye anyway, the chain looks to be going straight enough between the sprockets. I think it is the original chain with the bike, maybe 2 years old. How would I know if the wheels were out of alignment and by how much would it need to be out for it to be BAD!!

I checked using string like this

My bike has markers on the swingarm as well that can be lined up but i was told to use these as a guide as they are not always accurate. Although they seem to match up ok for me.
