Sorry to ask about oilCan you use normal motor oil for in your bike. The manual's only stipulation is 10w40 of which I have a shed load in the garage. Can I use it??

yes, SV650. I've heard things about if you use the energy efficient oil then it can make the clutch slip but otherwise its o.k.

I think you may find it should be semi synthetic, though I'm not 100% positive.

Far as I know , you can use it ok , but semi-synthetic or fully synthetic is sposed to be better at reducing engine wear, pricey too though .
Used to use normal oil in most o ma older bikes with no probs .
Ps , if it seizes dont blame me

I think its all down to making money as with desel oil etc. made diddy proof and dearer. any oil that is of the correct specified grade is fine as long as there is no additives eg. silicones etc as you said clutch slip. don't get confused with eg. magnitec reduces engine wear.
