Why do bikers hang about outside toilets?
Print |  Email
Having read all the various letters over the past few weeks regarding "boy racers" and "bikers" I feel that as I live opposite the car park in question perhaps I am in a position to comment.

It is true to say that every night there are upwards of twenty bikers, sometimes lots more, parked up in the car park. I have never witnessed any drinking or drug taking and, in general, they seem well behaved and don"t leave litter behind which is more than can be said for the average day tripper to Largs.

However I have to say that I have witnessed them drive over the pavement to get into or leave the car park and I have also witnessed some of them driving at high speeds along Gallowgate St.

From a personal point of view I don"t have any particular issues with "bikers" in general although I have to admit that the noise from the actual bikes does start to annoy people when subjected to it night after night. And therein lies the problem.

Why do the same "bikers" come to the same car park night after night? Surely the idea of having a motorbike is to be out riding it on the open road, not sitting huddled together behind a fast food stall? To give perspective to the situation I would ask other readers to consider how would they feel having twenty to forty motorcyclists outside their house every night until sunset?

Or what if the twenty men and bikes were to be replaced by twenty young boys and souped up cars? How long would that be tolerated? I am sure the police wouldn"t hesitate in acting if that was the case. After all they have started clamping down on the local young boys who have souped up cars.

Nobody minds bikers or boy racers coming to and driving around Largs but is it too much to find somewhere else to go for an evening and give the local residents a break?

I think the final point should be given to my partner (who also has a motorbike!).

He pointed out that there has to be something suspicious about a group of men who dress like "power-rangers" or in leather and hang around outside gents toilets until dusk!

Take from that what you will!
